Mónica no quiere comer.

Medical Spanish - Spanish for healthcare: dialogue 7 (Monica does not want to eat.)

appendicitis - apendicitis

Señor Martinez: Le traigo a Mónica porque no quiere comer. Dice que tiene ganas de vomitar y me parece que está un poco caliente.

(To you I bring Monica because she does not want to eat. She says that she feels like throwing up, (literally, "she has desire to vomit") and it seems to me that she is a little bit hot.)

Dr. Tyrrell: Vamos a ver, ¿te duele algo Mónica?.

(Let's see. Does anything hurt, Monica?) Note: Literally, it says, "We are going to see, to you hurts anything, Monica?"

Mónica: Sí, me duele la barriga, aquí a la derecha, por debajo del ombligo.

(Yes, my belly hurts, here to the right, below the belly button.)

Dr. Tyrrell: Está bien. Dime Mónica, ¿te duele exactamente aquí?

(It's ok. Tell me, Monica, it hurts you exactly here?)

Mónica: Sí, ahí me duele.

(Yes, it hurts me there.)

Dr. Tyrrell: Tranquila, déjame hacer otras maniobras. ¿Y esto también te duele?.

(Calm down, let me do other maneuvers. And this also hurts you?)

Mónica: Sí, eso también me duele, doctor.

(Yes, also it hurts me, doctor.)

Dr. Tyrrell: Parece ser una apendicitis. Vamos a hacer exámenes confirmatorios.

(It seems to be an appendicitis. We are going to do confirmatory exams.)

Señor Martinez: ¿Se pondrá bien con tratamiento?.

(Will she get better with treatment?) Note: Observe the use of the reflexive verb "ponerse," which here means "become," and literally means "put oneself."

Dr. Tyrrell: Una vez que tengamos los resultados, tendremos que operarla para extirpar el apéndice.

(Once we have the results, we will have to operate to take out the appendix.)
