Doctora: ¿Alguna vez había tenido fiebre tan alta?
(Had she ever had a fever so high?) Note: The phrase "alguna vez" literally means "any time" or "sometime." Note also that the construction "había tenido" is pluscuamperfecto (pluperfect).
Mamá: No, esta es la primera vez, y la orina huele mal.(No, this is the first time, and the urine smells bad.)
Doctora: ¿Se queja cuando orina?
(Does she complain when she urinates?)
Mamá: Sí, yo creo, porque la niña llora cada vez que orina.
(Yes, I believe, because the girl cries each time that she urinates.)
Doctora: Por la historia y el examen físico, luce como una infección urinaria. Le pediremos exámenes y un ultrasonido renal.
(By the history and the physical exam, it looks like a urinary infection. We will order tests and a renal ultrasound.) Note: In Spanish, indirect objects are frequently used. In this case, the word "le" literally means "to her."
