Papá: Buenos días doctora. Estamos aquí porque a Lisbeth le pasa algo raro. Está tranquila por un rato, y luego, de repente, llora, y tiembla como si se va a caer.
(Good morning doctor. We are here because something strange is happening to Lisbeth. She is calm for a while, and then suddenly, she cries, and trembles like she is going to fall down.)
Doctora: ¿Es la primera vez que esto sucede? ¿Cuándo empezó?
(Is it the first time that this has happened? When did it begin?) Note: Literally, it says "Is it the first time that this happens?"
Papá: Sí, es la primera vez que esto sucede. Empezó hace una hora. Mi hija mayor me llamó, porque encontró los jarabes para la tos, abiertos y mezclados en un vaso. Aparentemente, Lisbeth tomó algo de esa mezcla.
(Yes, it is the first time that this has happened. It began one hour ago. My older daughter called me, because she found the cough syrups opened and mixed in a glass. Apparently, Lisbeth drank some of the mixture.)
Doctora: Déjeme ver a la niña. Está un poco alterada neurológicamente, pero no severamente comprometida. ¿Sabe qué fue lo que tomó?
(Let me see the girl. She is a bit altered neurologically, but not severely compromised. Do you know what it was that she drank?)
Papá: Sí, aquí traje los jarabes que mezcló.
(Yes, I brought here the syrups that she mixed.)
Doctora: Sí, parece haber tomado estos medicamentos. Le daremos carbón activado, y deberá quedarse hospitalizada para observación.
(Yes, she seems to have taken these medications. We will give her activated carbon, and she will have to remain hospitalized for observation.)
Papá: ¿Es peligroso, doctora?
(Is it dangerous, doctor?)
Doctora: Por los síntomas que presenta, probablemente no sea mayor cosa. Fue una suerte que lo descubrieran tan pronto, y que la trajeran rápidamente.
(By the symptoms that that are apparent, it is probably not a major thing. It was good luck that you discovered it so soon, and that you brought her rapidly.) Note: Technically, "sea mayor cosa" is the present subjunctive tense, or literally, "it be major thing."
